The Odor Control Filter SQ 2500 is an activated carbon filter that is particularly effective against organic odours and harmful gases such as ozone, NO₂ and VOCs. These are prefilters, not HEPA filters
Worth stating plainly, because the distinction matters when ordering: the two products in this category are a fine-dust prefilter and an activated carbon filter. Neither is a HEPA filter. Both sit ahead of the HEPA stage in a mobile air purifier and exist to protect it.

What a prefilter does for the unit
A HEPA filter is expensive and slow to change. Loading it with hair, coarse dust and pollen wastes its capacity on particles a much cheaper filter can capture. A prefilter takes that load first.
The result is twofold: the air purifier maintains its airflow for longer, because the HEPA stage does not clog as quickly, and the HEPA filter's service life is extended. The prefilter is a consumable and is replaced on a regular schedule; the HEPA filter behind it is not.

Where the problem is smell or gas rather than dust, the activated carbon filter is the right prefilter. It adsorbs organic odours and gases including ozone, NO₂ and VOCs, and simultaneously performs the prefilter role — capturing dust, hair and pollen before the HEPA stage.
Per its listed applications it suits restaurants, commercial kitchens and food environments, along with laboratories, industry and waiting rooms. It also fits the OurAir SQ 2500.
Choosing between them
The decision is what you are trying to remove. If the issue is airborne dust and particulate load, the Airsquare Select is the straightforward prefilter. If there is a persistent odour or a gas concern, the activated carbon filter handles both the gas and the particle load in one stage.
Both are consumables for the same unit and both protect the same downstream HEPA filter.
